Apple wins design patents for the iPad, Cinema Display

Apple has been granted several patents by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, including one (D661693) for the design of the iPad and one (D661305) for the design of the Apple Cinema Display.

The inventors of the former are Bartley K. Andre, Daniel J. Costner, Daniele De Iulis, Evans Hankey, Richard P. Howarth, Jonathan P. Ive, Steve Jobs, Duncan Robert Kerr, Shin Nishibori, Matthew Dean Rohrbach, Peter Russell-Clarke, Duoglas Satzger, Christopher J. Stringer, Eugene Antony Whang and Rico Zorkendorfer.

The inventors of the latter are Bartley K. Andre, Daniel J. Costner, Daniele De Iulis, Evans Hankey, Richard P. Howarth, Jonathan P. Ive, Duncan Robert Kerr, Shin Nishibori, Matthew Dean Rohrbach, Peter Russell-Clarke, Duoglas Satzger, Christopher J. Stringer, Eugene Antony Whang and Rico Zorkendorfer.

Apple also won patents for the following:

° Patent number 8200986 for a computer related method and apparatus to transmit a logical value (e.g., 1 or 0) between two entities, such as an operating system and application program, in a secure way in an insecure environment.

° Patent number 8200727 involving method and apparatus for ensuring randomness of pseudo-random numbers generated by a conventional computer operating system or electronic device.

° Patent number 8196636 for a method of laminating a surface of a flexible material to a surface of a rigid, curved material.

° Patent number 8196214 involving a method and apparatus enabled by computer (or equivalent) hardware and software for protection of content such as audio and video to be downloaded or streamed over a computer network such as the Internet. The content is provided to the user via streaming or downloads in encrypted form.

° Patent number 8201214 is for ad-hoc user account creation. The invention is a mechanism that allows a user to easily configure a rules engine to apply rules to decide which requests for access to a user's computer resources are to be granted and which are denied.

° Patent number 8201109 involves methods and graphical user interfaces for editing on a portable multifunction device with a touch screen display.

° Patent number 8201102 involves a system and method of rendering a graphical user interface for a media based device which employs techniques for layering graphical elements.

° Patent number 8201096 is for user interfaces for browsing and/or searching.

° Patent number 8200761 involves methods and an apparatus for improving security in a data processing system.

° Patent number 8200629 is for transferring images between devices.

° Patent number 8200251 involves determining the location of a mobile device using a location database.

° Patent number 8200007 is for a method of estimating, illuminant comprises minimizing a Minkowski norm with illuminant constraints.

° Patent number 82199846 involves a generalized reference signaling scheme for multi-user, multiple input, multiple output (MU-MIMO) using arbitrarily precoded reference signals.

° Patent number 82199719 is for methods and an apparatus for performing handover between a long term evolution (LTE) network and another type of radio access network.

° Patent number 82199469 for a battery pack in a portable computing device.

° Patent number 8199468 involves a multipart computer housing with a clutch barrel.

° Patent number 8198525 is for a computer implemented method that allows a user to collectively adjust tracks in a digital workstation.
